Project Backstory
The story behind Dial
Dial came from my third Semester at Arizona State University. It was part of a 3-week branding project where we got to choose from five different brands to create a design for (academic purposes only).
I had chosen to design for Patagonia as it was the company that I felt most connected to out of the options.
The following is my brief design journey with this project.
Dial is meant to be a small device to accompany outdoor lovers on their experiences through the outdoors as a small device/accessory to add a different type of flair to their journey.
The Dial takes an existing Patagonia product and adds a new flair through a historic device to it to give it a new feel.
Please explore my project and my journey!
Patagonia is a brand that surrounds the outdoors. They pride themselves on the quality of what they produce as well as the sustainable aspects that they prioritize. To fit with the brand I set out with a goal;
To create a product that would maintain the core values of Patagonia and improve upon its selection of outdoor devices.
Originally I wished to explore thermoses but due to the wide selection already available through Patagonia, I decided to work on the part that is commonly overlooked, the lid.
My thought process brought me to add small but useful features to the already existing lid design, leading me to explore sundials.
After initial sketches and modeling, I landed on my final design.
What Dial is is a friendly accessory aimed at adding a small but enjoyable feature to people's lives outdoors and overall.
